Can you put frozen hamburger in a slow cooker?
Well yes you can!! This frozen hamburger recipe was created because I was just simply tired and needed an easy meal for dinner and all I had were these frozen hamburger patties!
Ingredients and Easy Substitutions:
- 1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup or Cream of Chicken Soup (your preference)
- 1 Envelope of Dry Brown Gravy Mix in a package
- 2 cups of Milk
- 3 or 4 Lean Frozen Hamburger Patties
Frozen hamburger patties – Lean beef patties work best for this recipe because they release less grease into the gravy as they cook. If your patties contain more fat, you may notice extra grease on top of the gravy; simply skim it off before serving.
Cream Soups – You can use either Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken soup. They both taste equally good in this recipe. If you’re a mushroom lover like us you might like the Mushroom soup.
Brown Gravy Mix – You can also use your preferred packaged gravy mix. I use McCormick but you can use what you like.
Milk – We use either reduced fat dairy milk or unsweetened unflavored Almond milk…they are also as equally good!
Mushrooms and Onions – These are optional toppings. We love sauteed mushrooms and onions over our cooked meal…but if that’s not your jam…leave them off!

Step 4 – In a medium bowl mix together Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken Soup with the Milk and Envelope of Dry Gravy Mix and mix well.
Step 5 – After mixing, pour your sauce over your frozen hamburger patties in the Crockpot.
How Long to Cook Frozen Hamburger Patties in the Crockpot
Step 6 – Now place the lid on your crockpot and cook on LOW for 5–6 hours or HIGH for approximately 3 hours. Slow Cookers vary, so check the thickest patty with a meat thermometer before serving. Ground beef should reach 160°F in the center.
You can cook longer on low, if you are going to be gone all day, it won’t hurt anything!

Can this be made in the oven? If so what would be the cooking time and temp?
Hi Alison! Yes, you can make this in the oven! I would spray your baking dish with cooking oil. Follow instructions for making the Salisbury Steak. Put foil over your baking dish so that it doesn’t splatter and doesn’t dry out. Bake at 375 for 45 min. Then check for doneness. It’s going to very a little by your oven. Let me know how it goes! Maybe I need to do and oven baked Salisbury Steak recipe post! 🙂
Could you cook on low for like 2 hours and on high 1 or 2 hours? I just don’t want cooking it on high to burn it or overcook anything . I’m still learning. Yes they are frozen too
Hi Ashton! I’m so sorry I didn’t see this! To be honest it depends on your Crockpot/Slow Cooker. Is your goal to shorten cooking time? I haven’t ever dried mine out with cooking on low for 5 hours. I would say give it a try! Part of learning to cook is experimenting. You’re doing great!
Would the cooking time be the same or shorter if using thawed patties??
Hi Audrey! Yes I would definitely lower the cooking time. Try 1/2 the time. Just be sure and check them to make sure they are cooked through after doing half of the time.
Brown gravy mix?
Hi Keith! Yes! I use a Brown Gravy Mix packet from the stored. You can use any brand you like.
How many do you think would fit in a 6 qt. crockpot?
Hi Julie! I would think you could fit 5 if it is an oblong crockpot. Try not to stack them right on top of one another, but if they overlap a little it’s perfectly ok. Hope this helps!
I prefer Salsbury Steak cooked with Mushrooms. Would you simply add fresh mushrooms to the crockpot?
Hi Tom!
Yes you can put your mushrooms right in with the Salisbury Steak if you prefer it that way. Thanks for stopping by!
Can the leftovers be frozen for another meal?
Yes! They totally can be frozen for a whole other meal. Double this recipe up… it’s so yummy! I freeze the leftovers all the time. I uncharted my frozen leftovers in the refrigerator overnight. Then that next day it’s a super quick heat up dish! Hope you enjoy! Thanks for stopping by!
Can you use plant based “milk” for this recipe?
Yes! For sure you can Elizabeth!
Hi Shari,

Yes you can! 🙂
