School has begun and the rhythm of busy mornings and umm…dragging tired teens out of bed has already started! In just a little over 2 weeks High School Basketball will begin and the busyness and physical exertion will begin to take it’s toll on those teen bodies. I’m going to show you how I’ve created a Self Care First Aid Kit for Teen Girls that is fun for them to use AND they won’t be ashamed to pull it out during sporting events if they need too!
Teens are so busy with homework, friends and sports these days, that getting them to take time to take good care of themselves is sometimes hard. They want to…but teen girls can sometimes get their priorities a little mixed up.
When sports start up around our house, there is a lot of moaning and groaning due to achy muscles and tired bodies. Even though my girls are in fantastic shape and have actually been playing on a weekend basketball team, it’s nothing compared to the riggers that will begin in a couple of weeks!
The key to making anything fun for most girls, is that it must start with pretty and then…you can funnel down to functional and useful! HA! Well that’s with my teen girls anyway. Needless to say, they want to look pretty while they play sports…umm all the boys are watching in the stands you know! UGG!
Here’s what I did to put together a simple Self Care First Aid Kit Teen Girls Will Love…and use!:
First you gotta get pretty…so I purchased a couple of cute makeup bags at Walmart for only $1.97!
Then I added the most important “ingredients” ~ Advil® Liqui-Gels®! Now my daughters only take this when they are OVERLY sore or have injured themselves. They self manage this pretty well and I’m thankful that they aren’t all gung ho about always getting rid of every ache and pain. I can tell you however, the way they work out AND the way that they play hard (basketball is physical)…this is essential in the Self Care First Aid Kit..Honestly nothing’s faster on tough pain than Advil® Liqui-Gels® *Among OTC pain relievers. Use as directed.
Another essential…Chapstick®! With the cold days of fall and winter and the hard workouts…lips can become super dry and chapped. Girls don’t like chapped lips! Chapstick® has been around forever and helps to moisturize & soften smooth lips everyday.
Other essentials in the kit:
- Tampon and Pads
- Instant Ice Pak
- Instant Heat Pak
- Just a little Gauze
- Hand sanitizer
- Alcohol wipes
- Antibacterial Ointment
- Hair ties ~ OOooh this is a MUST! Not having this in a Self Care Kit could send my girls into a frenzy! HA!
- Candy and gum ~ Another MUST have item
- A Small deodorant
- A Small perfume bottle
So I have a little secret…I didn’t gather each item separately. I bought a little First Aid Kit at Walmart that had the things we needed. That way I didn’t have to buy a big package of each thing and that we won’t be using all the time.
The things I added separately that were essential from Walmart….Advil® Liqui-Gels®, Chapstick®, Tampons, Pads, Hair Ties, Gum/Candy, deodorant and a small bottle of perfume!
So here’s the thing too…All the other girls on the team learn who the go to girls are for things they need for self care and first aid too! Of course there is always a trainer at sporting events and practices BUT the girls aren’t going to run to him/her for everything….they are just there for the BIG emergencies.
I want my girls to be equipped with essentials when I’m not around. It helps them to feel confident to handle high level physical activity along with learning how to self manage the little things in life.
