Aaargh! That’s been my word lately, because I have been stuck in such a rut.  After being sick for so long with cough’s, colds, flu’s and the energy zapping lethargy that comes with all of that…  I got stuck!

I just realized this the other day as I was starting to feel a little bit better.  I haven’t felt like blogging, cleaning, cooking…nothing!  I’ve literally been limping along.  Here’s the thing, if you are in a state of mind long enough, it becomes a habit…a part of your life.  Good or bad…it just does.

how to get unstuck and out of a rut

We can all fall into rut and get stuck in many ways.  Sickness, Family Crisis, Moving…you get my point.  It really doesn’t matter “why” we got stuck.  We just have to get unstuck!

Spring is here and the sun is starting to shine more and more, I think it’s time to change up this life thing!

Here are some things I’ve been doing to get unstuck and out of a rut.

First things first! PRAY!

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

If you have that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, that says…I’m so behind, don’t believe it!

Do 1 thing different every day.  What I mean is, do something out of the ordinary, something you don’t usually do.  Or at least  haven’t done in the last 2 months (YES..that’s how long I’ve been sick and stuck) It doesn’t have to be a big thing…just something different to break the “Aaargh” cycle!

  • Walk to the mailbox and get the mail.
  • Call a friend and ask for help
  • Buy some flowers for one little planter box and plant them
  • Plan a few projects FUN projects for your home this summer
  • Cook something out of the ordinary
  • Call a friend or relative you’ve been putting off
  • Journal…just a little
  • Take pictures and try to see life in a different angle
  • Move your furniture around
  • Paint something, sing something, whistle something…

Just do something different!

Then…

Do something the same every single day!  For me, I need to write…even if it is a little.  I’ve gotten out of the habit because my brain has been mush.  If you are in a rut, but have responsibilities to take care of, you will be surprised how good you will feel if you will just DO that one little responsibility every day.

Like doing the dishes or something!  For real.

Don’t listen to your feelings and emotions about yourself.  Sometimes we can convince ourselves that we are sooo stuck.  The TRUTH is, we are never really stuck.  Don’t listen to that voice in your head.  The enemy of our souls wants to overwhelm us.

I’ve found for myself that if I can accept that I am just a human with only so much capacity to “get things done” then I can be kinder to myself.  Not to make excuses for doing nothing, but to not take life to seriously.

To relax and start over.

Take some time to re evaluate your priorities…I’m still in the process of doing this.  Spring is a great time to do this.  After a long winter, I love to Spring clean my home AND my heart!

Here’s to getting UNSTUCK my friend!

Blessings to you and if you need prayer…

let me know!  I’ll pray!
