Power Freak – My Power Source
I’m going to assume that most of you that have come to Faith Filled Food For Moms and Grandmothers are Christians. So of course you know the exact source of the Power within me and why I’m a Power Freak! But just in case you have stumbled across this site and are confused as to what in the world I am talking about?! Please visit Eternal Life!
So now that we are on the same page, just how does this Holy Spirit work in me and you? It is a mystery..a Powerful mystery! After we receive Jesus as our Savior the Holy Spirit comes to live in our very being.
I love that before the beginning of time God had a plan to give me and you His power to live a Godly life. This was His idea from the very beginning of time. It is part of God’s plan that we are filled with the Holy Spirit to glorify Him!
John 14:15-17 says “If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- The Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
John 14:23 says “Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”
What command? What teaching? This is it Luke 10:27 “He answered: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all you mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
I am not saying that this is works orientated because the second we invite Jesus into our hearts we have the Holy Spirit 
The mystery is that we are incapable of doing this without the indwelling Holy Spirit..God himself! This is not will Power – this is genuine, full fledged Power from the Most High God – the very One that raised Christ from the dead – that created all things and planned in advance how we would live to be more than conquerors in Christ!
The Holy Spirit and how He works is a Huge topic – but for now I really just wanted you to remember just where this power source comes from –
Receive Jesus = receive Power!! Are you thinking of joining me in becoming a POWER FREAK?
Maybe you are saying to yourself “Ya, I have the Holy Spirit living in me, so what?” So what? Maybe you have not allowed Him to work His power in your life – to change you, to transform you, to work out things in your life that you never thought possible…for His glory…

Hmm, I guess this is where we agree to disagree, I believe the Spirit, Jesus Christ and God to be three separate beings but to be one in purpose. When Christ suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane (the atonement) He knelt down and prayed to the Father for help. This example, and many others to me, show that they are separate but one in purpose.
Your right, it is heavy, but truly worth discussing.

I believe in the Holy Trinity…your example of an egg is wonderful, Shari! I have also used the example of an apple; skin, flesh and core. What a wonderful mystery the Trinity is in our lives as Christians!
I also believe that good works are not necessary for salvation; however, good works are a necessary part of Christian life. Jesus Christ most certainly is a wonderful source of power!

The way I understand it is that the Holy Spirit does not always reside with man, I believe good works invite the Spirit into our lives, which is why when we do good works we can feel that Spirit of peace within us. I think our relationship with Jesus Christ is like other relationships in that in order to accept Him into our lives we must get to know him, how do we know him? By reading His words, doing His work and following in the path that He would have us follow. Many people in the Bible earned favor of the Lord by walking uprightly before God. Because they were righteous followers of God, they felt His Spirit reside in them. James 2:17 says “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone” – – Faith and works go hand in hand.

First of all I just want to say that I love to see that you are seeking a relationship with Jesus..that really excites me because I know that HE is seeking a relationship with YOU! And if you seek with all your heart you will find Him 🙂
I would like to say that the Bible is very clear though that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all one person. It’s called the Trinity..we could talk forever about this but it’s kind of like an egg..the outer shell, the white, and the yoke….all seperate but yet all one. It is a true mystery. So if you have the Son, you also have the Holy Spirit and the Father 🙂
In the old testament the Holy Spirit was definately at work, but He did not come to reside inisde of a person. This could not happen until Jesus raised from the dead and sent his Holy Spirit at Pentacost..a big event!
I guess the biggest thing I would caution you is that before making any kind of decisions regarding scripture, is that you take time to study the whole counsel of God..otherwise we can misinterpret things and fit them into what we want them to say instead of what is really being said. I trust the Spirit will show you this 🙂 Don’t take just my word for it seek this out for yourself 🙂

To me, receiving Christ into our hearts IS works oriented.

To answer your question re works? Yes it does take a step of faith to actually ask Jesus into your heart. The second you do, the Holy Spirit comes in to live inside of you. It’s awesome. I don’t really see this as works but more of Faith..but I can see how that would be confusing.
I didn’t want people to think that you had to “Love your neighbor” before you could receive the Holy Spirit..which to me would be possibly more of an outward thing that people might think they may need to do in order to earn favor or receive the Holy Spirit.
I hope this makes sense. If you feel this last minute “fix” of mine still causes confusion let me know! I may have to rethink about leaving it in my post. I’m so happy you stopped by! And more than that I’m so happy you brought this up! Thank you!
