Sports – How Did I Get So Deep?

Sports,  Sports,  Sports..I always hated sports.  You see I grew up with a Dad that was a P.E. teacher and then went on to be a HS principal.  Anyway,  EVERY weekend was about sports.  That was all that played on our TV.  My Dad would watch every  Football,  Basketball,  Golf game possible.

I know that many of you have similar feelings.  And especially hate team sports.  So I really feel strongly about sharing my little story about  how  God’s plan is sometimes alot different than our plan.   Anyway…

Our big kids were in sports in High School,  back then that’s when you really got involved in sports.  It was fun,   but I tended not to be too terribly over  involved.  But now we have these 3 younger kids.  They,  for some reason,  are extremely athletic.  So when they were young and we had more time for extra curricular activities because we home-schooled and our time was our own,  we thought it would be fun to get them involved in Basketball.  Nothing serious mind you,  just some good old fashioned exercise and fun.

As the years have progressed so have our kids abilities in varying sports.  I have watched as God has truly made athletes out of these kids.  Sometimes I watch in wonder at how there bodies are performing and think about how God created them to be so strong.

I think of the scripture “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:14  Gods Word uses this to illustrate reaching our goals and being strong and staying the course.  But of  course the real prize is Jesus Christ! 

Little did I know,  I was being sucked in.

I want you all to know that I didn’t choose this path,  but God did.  I wanted to say noooo,  but I would watch and see there joy and I would always be confronted by God.  “For my ways are not your ways”

The bible says in Proverbs to “train up a child in the way he should go”  You know,  if we really surrender our children to the Lord, He will direct there path.

Soooo….here’s a little secret.  I find myself stopping and watching when I see sports on TV.  Especially Basketball.  I wonder..is that ME interested in sports.  Hmmm.  You never know what God will do in your heart next.
