Wondering what the difference is between Au Gratin Potatoes and Scalloped?
Only one ingredient…Cheese. Au Gratin has Cheese, Scalloped doesn’t. Yep..that’s it..mystery solved!
Ingredients:
Serving Size 5-8 depending on how many potatoes you use. Figure one potato per person…or more of course if you have big eaters.
5-8 potatoes (peeled or not peeled) I don’t peel…umm lazy 🙂
2 cups or 1 pint of Half and Half
2 Tbsp. Butter
1/2 Cup Water (1 cup if using double the potatoes)
1 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Salt and Pepper to taste. ( You can add other seasonings too, like garlic salt, seasoning salts)
Optional Ingredients: 1/2 cup Shredded Romano/Parmesan Cheese, Bacon, Green Onions, Ham… let your creative side come out..
Directions:
Slice up the Potatoes to about 1/8 of an inch thick (any thicker will take really long to cook) See at end of post the type of Grater/Slicer I useSpray the size pan that will fit your potatoes. I am using a 10X9 for 5 potatoes. Spread potatoes out and pour in Water and Half and Half. Now Salt and Pepper..then dab Butter around evenly.Spread Cheese on top and then cover with foil.Bake at 375 for 45 minutes. Uncover at the last 5 minutes if you would like a golden brown top. Now if you are in a hurry..just microwave until potatoes get softened..NOT with the foil on of course. Then put in the oven for about 15 mins at 375. That’s it! With the holidays just around the corner..you can make an inexpensive side dish and wow your crowd!
