Yes I mean Rockin..so don’t miss it at the end of the post
Football season is upon us…and I have a little confession to make, I used to hate football. It really goes back to when I was young…my Dad was a PE teacher back then, he would be obsessed with watching just about every football game that was on … EVERY weekend. It might not have been so bad…I remember wanting to to learn more about football, but alas he simply did not have the patience to explain the game to me…especially in the middle of a game! LOL
I have another confession to make… Now I like football! I know…crazy! It’s because my kids play sports, I’ve learned that being competitive can be healthy if you don’t become obsessed about the whole thing. The emotions of winning and losing, the whole team camaraderie, the skills that it takes to play a sport..I really like it!
That is of course if it does not become an Idol..we’ve had to check our hearts in our home about this whole thing on more than one occasion.
One of my daughters friends had a surprise birthday party a couple weeks ago. Her parents surprised her by having a HUGE tailgate party in a church parking lot right before a High School Football game. (the church was right across the street) After the party, all of the kids just walked over to the game! It was a blast!
Well this was my first experience with tailgating…FUN and oooh the food..deelish!
So I was so excited to partner with Mars to come up with this fun recipe that you can make for your next tailgating party…or any party for that matter because they are DEELISH!
The Ultimate Chocolate Popcorn Dessert Bars
There are quite a few steps to making these…so the best thing to do is to have ALL of your ingredients and cooking utensils out and ready to use. Oh and I promise it will be worth it. These are not hard just a few extra steps! Read in instructions all the way through before baking to make sure you have everything ready.
Ingredients for Cookie Dough
Chocolate Chip cookie dough for the crust – I made mine from scratch, but you can buy it already made. Yep it’s legal but here is the easy recipe.
- 2 Sticks of Softened Butter
- 1 Cup Packed Golden Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Cup White Granulated Sugar
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 large Eggs
- 1 tsp. Baking Soda
- 2 1/4 cups All Purpose Flour
- 1 bag of Chocolate Chip
- 1/2 Cup Granola (either crushed or not)
Put all the ingredients into a bowl except flour and choc chips. Blend on Medium speed until nice and smooth and creamy.
Tip: Put Sugars in before Butter so that it is easier to mix and doesn’t stick to the bowl.
Then add Flour. You can still use your blender for this on low! It’s saves a lot of time. The mixture looks crumbly but will press right together with no problems at all.
Then add Chocolate Chips and Granola..stir
NOW – Press Cookie Dough into the bottom of a 9X13 pan and bake for 10 to 15 minutes at 350. Until fluffy and edges are slightly golden
Ingredients for the rest of the recipe…
- 1 package of Milky Way unwrapped bites
- 1 package of Snickers unwrapped bites
- 4 cups Mini Marshmallows
- 2/3 cup Light Corn Syrup
- 1/4 cup Butter
- 4 cups Popped Popcorn (you can use any kind you want..microwave, air popped)
While Cookie Dough is baking…
Pop your popcorn
In a sauce pan on LOW…put Light Corn Syrup, 1/4 cup Butter and package of Snickers Bites. Stir gently now and then until thoroughly melted. Keep on very low..until ready to pour on popcorn.
When Cookie Dough is baked…remove from oven and top with Marshmallows:
Then put back into oven for about 2-3 more minutes. The marshmallows will get all puffy!
Now pour Snickers Sauce onto the Popcorn…stirring Gently
Scoop the Snickers Popcorn on top of the Marshmallows and gently spread around. As it hardens it will make a caramel corn type topping.
Now cut up your Milky Way Bites into smaller chuncks…
Top with Milky Way Chunks..put back in oven for 2 minutes
Let cool for a half hour and then drizzle with some Vanilla or Chocolate Chips or Candy discs..melted, put into a sandwich bag, clip corner and design! (you don’t have to do this but it’s purdy)
Before you cut into this baby you need to put it into the refrigerator or you will have an ooeey gooeey mess!
Yep..I did it ..my kids were beggin for it..sooo
Put in frig for at least an hour to really cool and firm up.
WahLa! This is totally worth it and your tailgate party or any other party will LOVE it!
