Home Sweet Home

It’s the most simple things that make a house a home.  A place where I belong…a Home Sweet Home!  I am ever so aware of how important it is to create an atmosphere of love, peace and acceptance in my home.  A place where my family and friends will feel that they can be themselves.  A place where all of our senses cry out to be in that place called home.

~Think about what makes your house a home.  I have so many things that I love…funny things.  I love to hear the washing machine and dryer going because it reminds me of caring for my family.

~When I walk in the door from being out and about all day I love to smell food cooking in the crockpot..Mmm..it also reminds me that I don’t have to cook that night! LOL

~Hearing Christian music lightly playing in the background…when I’m alone.  Or listening to my kids play their Christian Rock as loud as they can while playing the drums (with drumsticks) and stomping their feet over my head while dancing around.

~Crawling into my bed at night with nice clean,  snuggly sheets and my Man to keep me warm.

~Home is a place where laughter abounds at the nuttiest things that most would find ridiculous.  A place where tears flow freely when the hurts of the world or the hurts from each other are resolved with forgiveness.  A place where we are all learning and growing and don’t have to be perfect.

If you were not fortunate to grow up in a home such as this..as I was not,  create these blessings for your family.  Christmas is the perfect season to create an inviting home for all that enter it.  It may seem like it doesn’t matter when your children are small,  but it really does..and it doesn’t take much to make them feel they belong.

You know.. if you don’t have family…create a family…with friends,  acquaintances,  anyone!

When I pray about the atmosphere of my home I like to think of heaven,  our ultimate Home Sweet Home!

No,  my home here on earth will never compare to heaven,  but I think of the great love the Father has for me and my family.  He created our family.  He drew us together.  He knows each of us by name and knows that we all belong together.  Just as I can’t wait to be with all of my children this Christmas Season,  our heavenly Father longs for us to come home and be with Him.  He has prepared that perfect place where we will  “belong”  forever!  Home Sweet Home!

So during this Blessed Season I pray you will think of ways that you are calling your family and friends Home to a place where they will always belong!

Share your Home Sweet Home Secrets:  We would love to hear them!

  1. Beautiful post. One of my goals for the new year is to make the home more welcoming for my babies. Mostly I need to work on not over reacting to things they do that are just “kids being kids”…

    1. You are a great Mommy! I really want my kids to always feel like there’s no place like home too 🙂 Blessings

  2. Loving the Christmas season with my family. Every morning we open our nativity advent calendar (it’s a fantastic wooden shadow box of the creche with all of the figures in boxes for each day of the month). My son rushes to see what person or animal is coming to the manger this morning. Then we read a scripture that goes along with it. My little one talks and talks about how exciting this is. It makes it even more special to me because we are sharing the greatest love of all, Jesus!
