In my effort to stay healthy this year, I’ve been exercising and using a super unique fitness challenge. Well it is to me anyway. My journey to healthy living really stems from watching my Mom die of cancer and my Sister die of AIDS…pretty heartbreaking. The devastation that these types of diseases leave behind are just so sad. A reason to stay healthy!
There are preventable diseases though and I say that if we can do something about it, we should! Why wait?!
One preventable disease is Osteoporosis, my Grandmother acquired this as she got older.
My Grandma was so fun loving, she looked and acted much younger than her age. She was the type of person that could make you laugh and see the good in most everything. She sort of went against the “rules” of what was acceptable sometimes, like letting my Aunt and her Boyfriend live together…that was back in the 60’s!
She was one of my saving graces when I was growing up…I had it rough but she would always encourage me and stand behind me, even sometimes sticking up for me to my Dad and Step Mom. Umm lets’ just say that didn’t go over real big! LOL Yes she marched to the beat of her own drum.
Nobody in my family were Christians…so I think we ALL marched to the beat of our own drum! HA!
It was sad to see how my grandmother suffered from Osteoporosis as it began to debilitate her as she got older. I don’t know if she really knew about it until it was well advanced. These days she may have known about it early on and if she had know I’m sure she would have found a reason to stay healthy!
I was surprised to learn as an adult that Osteoporosis is pretty much preventable with proper nutrition, exercise and a good supplement to help with bone and joint health as you get older. As a matter of fact Osteoporosis can even be reversible if caught early enough! No kidding.
My opinion…why even wait until it begins to show up in unhealthy ways?! As we get “older” ~ no I didn’t say old! I said older…I just wanted to clear that up. Our body and hormones change so much and our bones become less dense and strong, so it’s super important that we use a good calcium supplement along with eating properly and exercise. I am taking Caltrate ® Bone & Joint Health to help with this and I’m really happy with it so far.
I have this personal way that I can tell if my bones are staying strong…I look at my fingernails. For me I get a glimpse of my bone health by looking at them. This isn’t really scientific, but I’ve found if my fingernails are strong and white that I’m doing pretty good. Now, I’ve of course been checked by a physician too, so I’m not just basing my health on my fingernails!
When I’m taking Calcium supplements such as the Caltrate ® Bone & Joint Health they become strong and healthy looking and I love that I only have to take one tablet a day, so I can get all of my vitamins done at once. So I don’t forget! Excuse my puffy fingers…It was 94 degrees today and my body isn’t too happy!
I think I get a lot of my personality from my Grandma. I love life and let’s just say, sometimes I walk to the beat of my own drum…except I have the Lord so the beat stays pretty steady! I have so many reasons for staying strong and healthy, besides my 7 kids I have 6 Grandkids and I want to be around a long time, full of life and able to serve and bless my family.
Yes, even if you don’t have kids or grandkids, God still has a huge plan for your life. So take super good care of yourself!
I was really excited to see that I got $5 off of the Caltrate ® Bone & Joint Health with the in-store instant value coupon book at Walgreens and you can too!
At my store it was a buy one and get %50 off the 2nd too! Great savings!
So do you have a reason to stay healthy? Or do you have a hard time finding something to stay healthy for?
