Last week on One Blogger’s Confessions we discussed how to Fear Less and Blog More. This week it’s all about honesty and integrity plus a free Bible Scripture printable on Integrity.
It’s crazy the amount of work that goes into blogging isn’t it? Just crazy! So over the years I have learned lots of little ways to do things more productive and efficient. I have also made a lot of mistakes along the way, by trying to take short cuts that undermined my integrity. Oh yes…I said it!
Then I stumble backwards and have to ask myself “Oops, how’s my integrity?”
- the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.“he is known to be a man/woman of integrity”
As Professional Bloggers and even if you don’t consider yourself a Pro Blogger, there is one thing that you CANNOT afford to lose…yep…your integrity. Online integrity is the one thing that matters above all else. Of course it matters in real life too, but it’s easy to “hide out “ in the online world. Our readers and customers count on us to be honest, forth wright and trustworthy. If we are not, it could totally ruin our reputation. Or at the least, call our integrity into question.
What does the Bible say about integrity?
Just for starters…
“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.” Proverbs 10:9
“I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.”
1 Chronicles 29:17
“Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.” Psalm 41:12
Integrity is a HUGE thing to God isn’t it?! After all, we are not fooling Him…he knows our heart!
So what are some of the ways that I have stumbled in my integrity when it comes to blogging?
I’ll try not to make the list too long. HA!
- When I first started blogging, I had absolutely no idea that you couldn’t just use any old picture that was on the internet. Say what?! Umm ya I didn’t know. So my first posts were of other people’s pictures. You may say, oh well, but after I found out that I shouldn’t use others pictures, in my heart I was a little lazy about trying to take my own pictures. So I left them up for a long time, even after I KNEW I shouldn’t. Yikes..that ate at me and ate at me. Of course now all photos are mine on my blog. YAY! Since I first started blogging pictures have become sooo important, so there are many different sites that have images we can use for free! I use these now and then, but mostly I take my own pictures as I’ve discovered that I love to do that as much as I love to blog!
- If you tell someone you will do something, then do it! We all know this don’t we? The thing is though, when we don’t have to look at people in the eye in the online world, it’s easier to let things fall through the cracks and be more of a slacker. I’ve taken on too many things at once and then not been able to honor a post deadline or maybe just helping a fellow blogger. Lesson learned…not to say it’s rather embarrassing!
- Don’t inflate your numbers in order to get a campaign of any kind. I haven’t actually done this BUT I’ve been tempted! Yes..tempted! It’s so much better to know that you are learning and growing just at the pace God wants you to. We have to rust that God is in charge of the growth, we are merely the vessels. Don’t compromise this.
You know if you have made mistakes along the way, it’s ok. We can repent/go the other direction any time. We are not doomed to failure, nor are we stuck in a lack of integrity. Take that first step today and just talk to God about it.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
Well those are just three of my integrity bombers over the last 4 years. How about you? Do you have just One Blogger’s Confession this week in the area of integrity?
