I’m so honored to be sharing with you “How I Get My Kids to Take Their Recommended Vitamins and Supplements” because it’s hugely important to me!
The day starts so early for us, 5:00 AM. Showers going, hair dryers wurring, dryer fluffing clothes…crashing, sometimes yelling “Hey that’s my sweater..I didn’t say you could wear that!” Sometimes kindness “Sure you can wear that if I can wear….”
With 2 teens rushing out the door to catch their buses an hour later, the other to walk to school in the pouring down rain about the same time. No I don’t drive my child to High School when it’s blocks away..rain or no rain. Mean Mommy! LOL
Along with the rush of the morning… there is making sure that each kid has all their uniforms and shoes and equipment for the Sport of their choice, that they will attend directly after school.
Now try to fit in a good breakfast and vitamins and plenty of liquids to stay hydrated…Whoosh it’s a busy morning!
It’s fairly easy to get my kids to eat a good breakfast in the morning and drinking…well they are thirsty so that’s pretty easy, but taking their Vitamins…usually they are pretty good about it BUT then there are the long spells of “forgetting”.
When I start to see this happening I have totally learned that nagging will only make them “forget” more. Now I have certain things that I’m a bit fanatical about and health and nutrition is one of them. It’s really important to me for them to get their recommended vitamins for optimum health. Below is a short list that I insist on them taking…everyday!
- Daily Multi Vitamin
- Vitamin C – Especially during flu season
- Vitamin D – We simply don’t get enough sunshine in the Pacific Northwest..so we lack in vitamin D
- Probiotics – This is new to us..but when I heard about the amazing health benefits, we just had to try it out
This may seem like a lot but with having 3 very active teens it really is not. I am not an over doer of this type of thing…I like balance, so we take what we need and not more.
Since Vitamins and Supplements can be quite expensive I love to shop at our local Walgreens. There house brand is #WellatWalgreens and I SO appreciate that they are very reasonably priced as compared to other brands. I also almost always get a discount and rewards with my Walgreens Balance Rewards card too! They have a HUGE variety of other natural Vitamins and Supplements. That’s why I purchased my Probiotics there too.
One of the other things that I’m really excited about is Walgreens Way to Well Commitment – Beginning February 1, 2011 through December 31, 2014, 1¢ from n the purchase of every Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness product, up to $3 million annually, will support bringing preventative wellness services to local communities through the Walgreens Way to Well Commitment®. I’m on board with any company that has a heart to see communities have better health!
Back to those kids…
I’ve devised some fun ways to get my kids to take their vitamins without being a nag and it works! You might try them too if your kids are “forgetting” or becoming resistant to taking their Vitamins.
With all the yummy kinds of Vitamins on the market today…WHY wouldn’t you pick one that is tasty! Right? We love the Walgreens Children’s Gummy Multivitamins – yep even my teens and well me too!
Make taking your Vitamins FUN! Here are several silly things I have done..and believe it or not they worked! LOL
I’ve stacked up their Vitamins next to the shower with funny little notes in the morning before they get in! A simple message of WHY they should take their vitamins.
I’ve served them up like a pretty side dish in these little finger bowls. By the way, if you do this and have small children, be sure and talk to them about taking only one and the dangers of eating vitamins like candy! Yikes!
I’ve made up little vitamin packets and hidden them in their favorite cereals..this is a fun one, but make sure it actually comes out!
I also keep the vitamins in a basket right next to the cereal as a reminder for them to include them into their healthy morning routine.
I also write funny little things on our little..well not so little chalk board…
I know I’m silly..but as kids get older they don’t appreciate a nag, it will cause them to rebel..a little anyway. So I try to make life light. Life can already be overwhelming, so make things fun for your kids! Even a simple thing like taking their recommended Vitamins and Supplements can be fun!
So how do YOU get your kids to take their Vitamins? Is it important to you?
