Faith Filled Humor-Reminding Everyone to Take Time to Laugh

Oh boy..I need a good laugh today!  How about you?  So it’s time for Faith Filled Humor!

Faith Filled Humor

Dear Grandson:

I have become a little older since I saw you last, and a few changes have come into my life since then. Frankly, I have become a frivolous old gal. I am seeing five gentlemen every day. As soon as I wake up, Will Power helps me get out of bed. Then I go to see John. The Charlie Horse comes along, and when he is here, he takes a lot of my time and attention. When he leaves, Arthur Ritis shows up and stays the rest of the day. He doesn’t like to stay in one place very long, so he takes me from joint to joint. After such a busy day, I’m really tired and glad to go to bed with Ben Gay. What a life. Oh yes, I’m also flirting with Al Zymer.

Love,
Grandma

P.S. The preacher came to call the other day. He said at my age I should be thinking of the hereafter. I told him, “Oh, I do it all the time.” No matter where I am, in the parlor, upstairs, in the kitchen or down in the basement, I ask myself, “Now, what am I here after?”

The following short quiz consists of 4 questions and tells whether you are qualified to be a “professional.” According to Andersen Consulting Worldwide, around 90% of the professionals they tested got all questions wrong. But many preschoolers got several correct answers!

1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?

Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe and close the door. This question tests whether you tend to do simple things in an overly complicated way.

2. How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

Wrong Answer: Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant and close the door.

Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant and close the door. This tests your ability to think through the repercussions of your actions.

3. The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All the animals attend except one. Which animal does not attend?

Correct Answer: The elephant. The elephant is in the refrigerator. This tests your memory.

OK, even if you didn’t answer the first three questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show your abilities.

4. There is a river you must cross. But it is inhabited by crocodiles. How do you manage it?

Correct Answer: You swim across. All the crocodiles are attending the Animal Conference. This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.

5 Risks I’d like to Take! Right Now!

Do you ever dream of doing things that..well.. seem a little risky?  I’m pretty good at taking risks that don’t have too big of consequence..but sometimes I dream of doing a little more..

So I just thought I’d share with you a little about what is on my mind and see if YOU might do some of these things….

Risk #1.  I’ve REALLY been wanting to plant a vegetable garden since we have moved into our house about 2 1/2 years ago..but..the only place there is enough sunshine is in the front yard.  So I’ve been thinking long and hard about planting an Edible Front Yard Garden..

The surprising thing is that after getting so many great ideas, I’ve found that in some neighborhoods that a front yard garden can be quite controversial and downright offensive to some?!  Personally I think edible gardens are beautiful.  What do you think?  Would you be offended?

Risk #2.  Dying my hair..My girls are mortified that I am getting so much gray hair.  Not my older girls, but my teens.  I’m not sure if it’s the look of gray hair or the fact that they don’t like me getting older… So I’m thinking of dying my hair…

haircolor

This isn’t too wild and crazy is it?! LOL

Risk #3.   I’d like to start doing Cooking Video’s..but I’m feeling totally under qualified!

This is definitely not my kitchen..but it’s just so pretty! :)   Although I have an awesome kitchen with lots of space and great lighting..I’m just nervous about taking the risk!  What do you think..shall I do it?

Risk #4.  I would like to take..is to get one these cute little ol cars..everyone says they are just too dangerous if I was to be an accident…

smart fortwo leads the two-seater cars class

They Kids complain that I could only go places by myself or that I could only have one other person with me…are you catchin the vision with me…..HA!

Risk # 5.  I’d like to spend the money to go on a really COOL vacation!

Ahhh..well..I can dream can’t I?  I’ll have to Win a trip like this! LOL

Ok so that’s all the risky behaviors that I’m thinking about!  What about you?  Do you have dreams that you would like to take a risk with?

Housework

One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweatshirt.

Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, “What setting do I use on the washing machine?”

“It depends,” I replied. “What does it say on your shirt?”

He yelled back, “University of Oklahoma.”

God is Watching

Children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, “Take only one, God is watching.”
At the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. Moving through the line a boy wrote another note to leave by the cookies, “Take all you want, God is watching the apples.”

By the time Bobby arrived, the football game had already started. “Why are you so late?” asked his friend.

“I couldn’t decide between going to church and going to the football game. So I tossed a coin,” said Bobby.

“Well, I had to toss it 35 times

Dr. Seuss Computer Poem

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your DVD abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted ’cause the index doesn’t hash,
Then your situation’s hopeless, and your system’s gonna crash!
If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
That’s repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
‘Cause as sure as I’m a poet, the sucker’s gonna hang!
When the copy of your CD’s getting sloppy on the disc,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary RISC,
Then you have to flash memory and you’ll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly now, turn off the computer and go and tell your mom!

Kids Have the BEST Ideas!

It was the day after Christmas and Pastor Mike was looking at the nativity scene outside when he noticed the baby Jesus was missing from the figures.
Immediately, he thought to call the police. But as he was about to do so, he saw little Jimmy with a red wagon, and in the wagon was the figure of the little infant Jesus.
Pastor Mike walked up to Jimmy and said, “Well, Jimmy, where did you get the little infant?”
Jimmy replied, “I got him from the church.”
“And why did you take him?”
With a sheepish smile, Jimmy said, “Well, about a week before Christmas I prayed to little Lord Jesus. I told him if he would bring me a red wagon for Christmas, I would give him a ride around the block in it.”

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY?

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
- Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they’re going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you’re stuck with.

And the Two Shall Become One Flesh

Matthew 19:5  “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,

and the two shall become one flesh

25 years ago my husband and I became One Flesh…God knit our hearts together and we embarked on that adventure called Marriage.  To celebrate we wanted to go on a cruise for our 25th..but we settled for a simple day in downtown Seattle at the Pike Place Market and the Waterfront…it was almost as good!  LOL   What a fun day we had…

pike place market

Then off to a beautiful dinner at Wild Ginger Restaurant in the heart of downtown…No kids (a rarity)  It’s always sooo nice whenever I see leather menu covers at restaurants that don’t have sticky little fingerprints all over them :)    Not that I don’t love sticky little fingers…  We also had above and beyond quality service!

Wild Ginger Resturant

When my husband and I met 27 years ago it was not love at first sight.  However I was very drawn to this man of God..although I had never ever (to my knowledge) known a man of God before.  Here is how it all began…

Well most of you know that I am in recovery..you can read that story here..anyway in my early days of recovery I went to many,  many AA meetings.   In AA you are encouraged to have a power that is greater than yourself to focus on..it can be anything..door knobs..pillows..people..God..anything goes.  It is common knowledge that you are to accept and respect one another and one another’s beliefs.  As long as it is keeping you sober.

I won’t go into how I came to know the Lord at this time…I’ll save that for another time..it’s amazing :)   Anyway,  I had accepted Jesus into my heart about 6 months before I met my husband…

It was a day like any other,  simply staying sober and walking with my Jesus One Day At A Time.  I sat in on one my usual AA meetings,  when all of a sudden a guy that I had never seen before was called on to speak.  He began going on and on about God.  The God of the Bible!  What?  You can’t just start talking about God like that in an AA meeting.  He was saying things like..”there’s a pitchfork in one corner” and a “Cross in another Corner”  In other words heaven or hell your choice.  Ummm I know…let’s just say my husband is VERY BOLD.  LOL

I sat there telling myself that this was not the time or place for such boldness..I heard a voice speak to my heart..What was that??  for the first time EVER I heard the Holy Spirit speak to my heart saying  “Anywhere is the time or the place to talk about me”  What!?  It was amazing to have God speak to my heart for the first time!

After the meeting I walked up to this guy and asked him what church he went to.  I had NEVER been to church before…except when I was about in 5th grade someone took me to Vacation Bible School for a couple days.  He told me what church he went to and invited me to go that following Sunday.

So I met him at the church with my 2 girls and we met his 2 children.  After taking the children to Sunday School classes we went to the service.  Oh my,  if you could have seen how I dressed you would crawl under a chair..but those folks just loved me…that’s another story too!  I’m full of them :)   After a few weeks of going to church on Sundays this sweet guy asked me if I wanted to take a new believers class.. I said “sure” whatever that meant!

You know what this guy said once we were in that class??!!

He introduced me as “his future wife”  WHAT!  What nerve this guy has!  I was not too pleased about this.  The next thing I know he talked me into getting a real live Bible  (I had never read one before!)  Yep..I snuck into a Christian Store one day and got the most plain Bible I could find.  I didn’t want ANYONE to know what book I was carrying around.   Oh that’s another story too! LOL

Well you could say the rest is history..we actually stayed just friends for a couple of years and when we did finally start dating..we were married within 3 months and blended our families together!

I would love to tell you that we lived happily ever after..but as you can imagine our struggles have been many with the two of us being in recovery,  having backgrounds with abuse and blending a family together.  We have had many many trials and triumphs over 25 years..someday I will write about them…I could write a whole book on this topic,  to tell you of our amazing and powerful God that works ALL things together for good for HIS GLORY…

I am so thankful for my husband and the gift he has been to me!

No matter your struggles or triumphs..be the wife that God has created you to be…no matter how hard or joyful the season!

Do you have struggles or triumphs that you would like to share?  Would you like to have me write about marriage?

Easter Is About JESUS: Book Review and Special Interview

Easter Is about Jesus – Family Devotions for the Easter Season

Let me just tell you right up front..I LOVE THIS BOOK!  When my children were younger I searched high and low for books like these during special holidays that would Glorify God and teach the TRUE meaning of the season!   I found only a small handful and each book left out many elements that I was looking for.   Therefore causing me to use what little brain power I had left after having so many children!  LOL  I wanted something complete.  You know..something more than just reading a book.

Easter Is about Jesus has everything that a Mom/Grandmother could want,  to make learning and growing in the Lord during this special season a fun occasion!  I’m all about fun and learning!  Scripture,  Teaching and  Activities are included in each of the 15 devotions to make learning meaningful and interesting.  This precious book is filled with sweet illustrations and is really nicely laid out for ease of parents to use!

I love books that show the heart and intention of the Author.  So as a very special honor to myself and my readers,  Mukkove  (the author of Easter is About JESUS) is sharing HER heart with US!  Thank you so much Mukkove..you ROCK!!  By the way Mukkove also has another book out called Christmas is About Jesus ..another very special book!

AND as if that’s not enough..she is offering her book in a special giveaway here on Faith Filled Food for Moms and Grandmothers!  Thank you again Mukkove!

So after reading her awesome interview,  please enter the giveaway

Shari, thank you for the honor of allowing me to share with your readers.

I love living in Alaska surrounded by the creative majesty of God. It is stunning – especially on days like today when it’s bright and clear. My parents moved here from Minnesota when I was 9 so it’s been home for a long time. My husband and I just celebrated 18 years of marriage. It’s gone by so fast, just like our kids are growing! My oldest is almost 13 and almost taller than me. The middle is almost 12 and the littlest 10.

Raising my children in every way was always a given for me.I never wondered if I would put them in school. Training and equipping them for life is my most important job. A huge part of that is how to think, how to decide what they believe, what they choose to think about. There is no way for me to shelter them from every conflicting idea and opinion, instead I must train them to evaluate and deal with those conflicting ideas.  It’s like the idea of childproofing the house so they won’t get hurt or break something- I never did that. I always said I was house proofing my children. If they learn the meaning of “no”, learn limits and self-control then they are equipped to cope in many places instead of only those carefully prepared for them. So my aim is to “world-proof” my children. I still do my best to shelter them from what I can, and keep things as age appropriate as possible, just as you would keep your child from being burned on the stove, but they need to know how to handle themselves. They need to know what they believe and why.

Christmas time in our culture is filled with ideas contrary to what I was teaching my children. Even the friendly clerks in the store are pushing Santa and presents. I wanted to influence what my children thought about when the saw Santa, gifts, and trees. So that was my first book, Christmas is About Jesus: An Advent Devotional. We began on December 1streading a devotion and hanging up an ornament I had made to match. We would discuss throughout the day how the symbol reminded us of Jesus. I think we used it for about 5 years before I published it.

Easter may be even more confusing in our culture than Christmas. Easter is About Jesus: Family Devotions for the Easter Season follows the same idea. The thing I am most excited about with the Easter book is the “More Time with God” section of each day’s devotion. I tried to make all of them interactive – discussion starters really. Your family is not going to believe exactly everything I say. That is perfectly fine. Use the devotion to talk about what you do believe and why. The“More Time with God” takes on a little different format in that I added specific discussion questions and suggested activities. The goal was to facilitate relationship between the children and God. So often as parents we are teaching and they are responding- which is very needed. Children also need to have their own relationship with God and I hope the activity ideas will help them grow in that relationship.

Blessings on your family as you focus on Jesus,

Artists & Authors: Learning Character Through Drawing

artistscover

A few weeks ago I received  an awesome book Authored by Mrs. Lorrie Flem to review for Gabby Moms.  I cannot tell you how impressed I am with Artists and Authors!  This little book is FULL of Character learning through drawing!  It is intended for children ages 4 to 10.  I had planned on doing it with one of my Grandchildren… BUT when my eleven year old got a hold of this book she looked through it and asked what it was.  We flipped through a few pages and read the instructions on each of these pages and to my pleasant surprise she said “Hey I want to do this!”

STP61594 Lorrie gives some great instruction shares her heart as usual in the introductions.  Most of all she encourages each family the way that works best for them!  I love that!  The themes and subjects that are covered are rich and thorough!  It covers:

  • 24 character traits and their associated biblical knowledge
  • 10 Commandments
  • Fruits of the Spirit
  • Why we celebrate Valentine’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas
  • All 107 points of the Westminster Shorter Catechism

Lorrie has many creative suggestions for using this little gem!  I love the grab and go idea.  This is a perfect size to fit into your purse when you are on the go!  Kids could easily do this while at a Dr’s appt.,  in Church  (if they sit with you)  Anywhere!  LOVE IT!  I will definitely leave this out for when my daughter says  “I’m bored”  It will fun AND be teaching Character!

Whether you homeschool or public school this book can definitely be used to enhance Character Training!

This is a guaranteed winner!  Lorrie also has a book for the Authors in your life.  It is for a little bit older child that would enjoy writing as opposed to drawing it is called Authors and Artists (yes that backwards from the book I reviewed :)

You can find these awesome little books and many other wonderful resources at theEternal Encouragement Website!   Also,  in the back of this little book is a BIG bonus.  Order a 2 year subscription  of  Eternal Encouragement Magazine and get $140 of FREE gifts!

You can enter to win one of these awesome books here!

I was given a copy of  “Artists and Authors”  for my honest review. All opinions in this post are completely my own.
