I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias, Elmer’s and Champions for Kids. I am totally honored to be working on the Bag It Forward Campaign with all of them!
School is just around the corner…we all know it! No getting around it either and whether you are heading to public, private or homeschool…Fall is always the time for a new start in educating!
Going back to school brings with it a ton of expenses. For us this year we will have a Senior…Aaack, a freshmen and a 7th grader. I can hardly believe how fast they have grown! They are all in sports so that means $$ They all need school clothes more $$ Of course they all need school supplies and backpacks..$$ It all adds up doesn’t it?!
Six years ago my littles were headed off to their first year in public school! We had homeschooled before that. I loved that there was no pressure to gather all of that schooly stuff! But alas…we had an extreme family emergency and my husband had to take a family leave for a month, no pay! The pressure was too much for me to continue homeschooling so with much prayer..we enrolled them in public school.
Fear and sadness were heavy on my heart… but what was even harder was the fact that we had NO $$ for backpacks and school supplies. In August we learned of a HUGE event in a neighboring town that was called Summer Jubilee. It was put on by a local church and offered a huge back to school event and everything was FREE! FREE Backpacks, FREE School Supplies, FREE haircuts, FREE rides and more!
We had never been so poor, financially that is..So we humbled ourselves and went to this event and my kids were so blessed! Not only did they have fun, they got the supplies they needed to feel good about this new adventure in education. It also gave them confidence that they were prepared to handle Public School!
Those are old pics above (obviously)…and my littlest didn’t have her backpack on..but this was there first day of school, 6 years ago!
This is why I am sooo excited to partner with Elmer’s and Champions for Kids on the Bag It Forward Campaign to make sure that ALL KIDS head off to school with the tools they NEED to get an excellent education and feel good about themselves! There is nothing more important than building confidence and self worth in our most precious asset..CHILDREN!
Ok so fast forward to today…
In the past few years I’ve been privileged to be able to be the giver than the recipient and bless others! A funny/sad/happy thing happened this year…
I was all set to partner with Elmer’s and Champions for Kids because our huge mega church always does a backpack drive…but guess what..not this year!! I was kind of shocked because I didn’t know what the plan would be now. So I prayed and asked God what I should do with this shop..since my church was my whole plan to Bag It Forward…
What now Lord?
God always has a plan doesn’t He? As I was shopping I happened to over hear a gal a couple of feet away from me ask one of the Walmart Clerks if they would be interested in donating to their Back2School Rally that they would be having in another neighboring town. She was telling the clerk about the great NEED and that over 500 families had signed up for the back to school event and that they would be short Backpacks! Oh noooo that just can’t happen…kids and families are counting on those supplies!!!
Well Walmart gladly donated 100 Backpacks to her and I donated the 2 that I had bought WITH supplies!! It was such a blessing for her and for me! I found out that she was the Children’s Pastor at a local church…of course!! So I made a new friend too!! Isn’t God so good?
So are you ready for another twist?
The next day I received an email from one of the Pastors at my own church. He said that although they were not going to be doing a Backpack drive this year..they would be giving away Backpacks to some families that were in need this year. Well umm I had already donated the Backpacks, BUT I just couldn’t say no. So I ran out and bought a couple more “teen bags” at the urging of my daughters and filled with some more school supplies and happily donated…again. God is funny, sometimes he wants us to just give more. More until it kinda hurts…
in a wonderful way!
How about you? Do you donate school supplies or backpacks to kids in need? Are you interested in the Bag It Forward program? I encourage you to look around your town/city and see if you could find a place to donate these items…it really is easy…
- Call some local churches..usually the bigger ones are equipped to handle these kinds of donations.
- Google backpack drives or back to school rally’s. Any of those kinds of terms…in your area!
- Call your County Family Centers…Our County Family Centers are looking for MORE backpacks.
- Call your local Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts Troops
- Call your local Boys and Girls Clubs
The need is great! Let’s step out in faith and God will show you just where He wants those Backpacks and School Supplies to go…serving is an adventure!
On the other hand if you are the one in need this year, please humble yourself and get a little help. Set your pride aside. God intends for us to serve and love one another in these ways. Trust me, it will be a blessing to others if you allow them to help YOU!
By the way … a little encouragement for all of you Homeschoolers! As relaxed of a Homeschooler as I was, my kids were still way ahead of the game when they entered Public School!
They are high achievers AND leaders in their Public Schools today!
You can follow this awesome Campaign on Social Media to stay up to date on the latest!
